The Lutheran Elementary School Association (LESA) honored retired Ralston Purina president John W. (Jack) Gerber and raised more than $490,000 for Lutheran elementary schools at its 10 Year Anniversary Celebration of “A Night for Kids," held Saturday, April 5, 2014, at the Marriott St. Louis West in Chesterfield.

Gerber, a founding LESA Board Member and past executive of Ralston Purina, Inc. and Concordia Publishing House, accepted the organization's Heritage Award for his ongoing dedication to Lutheran schools and students.

Grace Frisella, an eighth-grader at Christ Community Lutheran School in Kirkwood, received LESA's “Student Christian Leadership Award for starting a recycling program at CCLS's middle school campus earlier this year.

Donations to the event were matched dollar-for-dollar by the Lutheran Foundation of St. Louis. The Clara & Spencer Werner Fund of the Lutheran Legacy Foundation matched 20 percent of the gross proceeds.

Since 2004, LESA has awarded 10,399 need-based scholarships totaling nearly $7 million dollars to children of all faiths in the St. Louis area.

More than 8,000 children attend LESA member schools in the St. Louis Metro Area and southern Illinois. A Recognized Service Organization of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod, LESA represents 30 elementary schools, early childhood centers, four high schools and six related agencies.

Thank you to our sponsors, donors, guests and volunteers.
