LESA Schools to Celebrate National Lutheran Schools Week

02/24/2009 St. Louis Area Lutheran Schools to Celebrate “National Lutheran Schools Week”

ST. LOUIS, MO (February 24, 2009) Thousands of students at more thank 40 Lutheran elementary and high schools in the St. Louis Metro Area will celebrate National Lutheran Schools Week, March 1-7, 2009. The schools, members of the St. Louis-based Lutheran Elementary School Association (LESA), will mark the week with service projects, worship services and special events.

This year’s activities include a chapel collection to help build clean-water wells in Kenya, a food drive for needy families in Illinois, student-staff basketball games, book and academic fairs, and numerous student “dress-up” days. The theme of this year’s celebration is “Securing Each Child's Future-For Eternity” based on John 3:16.

“Our schools work really hard to make every day of this week meaningful and special,” said Deb Schmich, LESA’s Director of Student Services. “It’s a great opportunity to show our families and communities why Lutheran schools are such a special place to learn and grow.”

More than 8,000 students attend LESA member schools in the St. Louis Metro Area. A Recognized Service Organization of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod, LESA represents 37 elementary schools and early childhood centers, four high schools and six related agencies.
