On Sunday, September 13, 2009 Teachers Ruth Thompson  and Jamie Endorf of Metro-East Lutheran High School raced in the Lewis and Clark Marathon, held in St. Charles, MO.

Ruth Thompson completed the Full Marathon in 3hours 37minutes, for a fourth place overall finish in the women’s division and first place in her age category for women.  She finished 73rd out of 688 overall among full marathon runners.  Miss Thompson’s time qualifies her to for The Boston Marathon.

According to Miss Thompson, “Running a marathon has been something that I wanted to do since one of my high school teachers ran one.  While in high school, I set the goal of completing at least one marathon before I turned thirty.  I never really thought about being able to qualify for the Boston Marathon especially after I looked up the qualifying time.”  She goes on to explain, “However, on race day I set a pace I felt comfortable with and realized about half way through that if I kept that pace, I had a chance to qualify.”  Miss Thompson is planning to run in
The Boston Marathon on April 19, 2010.

Miss Thompson teaches Algebra 1, Survey of Math, and US History at Metro-East Lutheran High School.  In addition to her teaching duties, she is the Junior Varsity girl’s basketball coach and assists with cross-country.  Jamie Endorf who teaches Spanish at MELHS raced in the half marathon for a time of 1 hour 59 minutes.  She finished 77th out of 495 women in her age group.  In addition to her teaching duties, she serves as the Student Council advisor and is an assistant volleyball coach.
