Fathers and Daughters Teach Students About Business
A Daddy/Daughter Dance was held at Lutheran High School of St. Charles County on Friday, November 13. Over 100 K-3rd grade girls and their fathers enjoyed an evening of dancing, crafts and games. Couples dressed in semi-formal attire, had a formal photograph taken as they entered the dance, and danced to favorites such as “YMCA,” “The Hokey Pokey,” and “Cupid Shuffle.” A highlight of the evening was the “Daddy Dance Off,” where fathers showed their best dance moves in hopes of winning the Home Depot gift card prize.
“We had a blast! My little one had a great time with the crafts and the dancing,” commented Michael, who attended with his daughter Lauren.
The dance was the work of Lutheran High’s Business Management class, whose class project was to create and run a business. This semester’s class formed Xtreme Xperiences, Inc., wrote a business plan, developed a mission statement, and sold stock to obtain start-up capital. Students then organized into Production, Marketing, Finance, and Human Resources departments to implement their plan. After a successful event, a portion of the profits was given to The Backstoppers organization, and the remaining profit was paid back to stockholders as dividends.
Senior Sara Twillmann, who was part of the Production department, stated, “I learned so much I don’t even know where to start! I loved this experience and it definitely made me consider business as a major in college.”
